Meet our Behavioral Health team:
Dr. La-Toya S. Gaines, PsyD, LP — Executive Director of Behavioral Health
Dr. La-Toya S. Gaines is a licensed clinical psychologist and the Executive Director of Behavioral Health at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Detroit. She provides strategic leadership for the organization’s behavioral health services, including individual, family, and group interventions, crisis response, prevention programming, and clinical training.
With 20 years of experience in mental health, education, clinical supervision, and organizational leadership, Dr. Gaines has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and families navigating school-related concerns, behavioral challenges, emotional difficulties, parenting stress, family conflict, and major life transitions.
Dr. Gaines is committed to increasing access to high-quality, culturally responsive behavioral health care for children, teens, young adults, and families. She also leads partnerships with universities and community organizations to develop the next generation of behavioral health professionals and strengthen the systems that support youth wellness.
Dr. Gaines earned her Doctor of Psychology degree in clinical psychology at The Michigan School of Psychology. She is also a published author and speaker whose work focuses on mental health, wellness, self-care, relationships, and the unique experiences of Black women. Her work is grounded in trauma-informed care, collaboration, and the belief that young people thrive when their emotional well-being is supported alongside their academic, social, and personal development.

Jenée Joseph, LMSW — Director of Social Work
Jenée Joseph, LMSW serves as the Director of Social Work at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Detroit, where she leads the organization’s behavioral health initiatives and works to ensure youth and families have access to high-quality mental health support. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a concentration in Criminal Justice from Central Michigan University and her Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan, specializing in Children, Youth, and Families and Nonprofit Management.
Jenée is passionate about creating safe, supportive environments where young people can build resilience, develop healthy coping skills, and reach their full potential. Her work focuses on trauma-informed care, youth development, crisis intervention, family engagement, restorative practices, and strengthening community partnerships. She is committed to reducing barriers to mental health services and empowering youth through compassionate, strengths-based care.
As a licensed clinical social worker, Jenée believes that every child deserves to be seen, heard, and supported. She is dedicated to equipping youth, families, and communities with the tools and resources needed to foster emotional well-being and lifelong success.
