DETROIT March 13, 2020 – Following the directions given by Governor Gretchen Whitmer to close all K-12 school locations in the state starting Friday March 13th the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan (BGCSM) has moved to close their Club locations as well and reopen on Monday, April 6th. While students are out of school, BGCSM will be providing a couple of resources to ensure kids can stay active, engaged and safe.

“It is important that we continue our mission to be a resource to the youth we serve, even if we’re unable to see them in-person,” says Shawn H. Wilson president & CEO of BGCSM. “While kids are out of school at this time, we must realize that for some, school and BGCSM is the only place where they have internet access, educational enrichment, and even a consistent meal. We urge the community to get on board to donate what they can for those that can’t.”

During Club closures, BGCSM staff will organize and distribute play and learn care packages for youth members which will include books, toys, STEM/STEAM kits, board games and more. More information and a full list of donation options can be found here. You can also help by donating online at bgcsm.org.
